Slam Dunk

The debate season has started! The television pundits are giving endless commentary. I want to weigh in with a notion I have not yet heard anyone mention.

Regarding Hillary's accusation during the recent debate when she claimed "Trump has paid zero taxes":  For starters, how does Hillary know? She is at the same time blasting him for not releasing his taxes. There is no way she can truthfully make the claim he has paid nothing. It was just another one of her lies that she appears to be so comfortable in spewing.

Secondly, he did NOT say, "I'm smart," when she accused him of paying no taxes. I believe he said "I'd be smart." He later explained that he meant, "That would make me smart." In other words, if that were indeed the case, (that he had paid no taxes) that would make him very smart. Regardless, it was a difficult point to make at the time, because Hillary was still talking. But I believe his post-debate explanation is accurate, because I have heard him say the same thing in the past.

However, I do believe Trump missed the boat with his answer to that nefarious charge. I don't know; maybe he didn't get the chance to explain when it came his turn. He had been placed on the defensive. Maybe the moderator changed the subject. I would have to review the tape to be certain. But to me, his answer should have been fairly simple and extremely important. I think his answer should have been a slam dunk.

He needs to remind America when the tax issue comes up again of one of the best attributes Trump has going for him. "But I have created thousands of jobs for people who HAVE paid taxes." In that regard, I have paid more taxes than most Americans. BUT even more importantly, I have created jobs that have put food on the table, a roof overhead, and paid the electric bill for thousands of families!"

That is the best answer Mr. Trump can give, in my opinion. It will come up again. It is something the left loves to use to attack him. The left doesn't seem to like success.

We have laws created to help businesses succeed. There is nothing wrong with using those laws to aid ones business; rather it is imperative for a flourishing society. Business is the back bone of our society. I thank God for people who have done well enough to create businesses that give people jobs.

Isn't that what Capitalism is about? We are a Capitalistic society, so designed by our Founders, because that is the system that is best for a nation. And in America's case, also best for the world! We are a benevolent society. We have helped more nations than any other nation because of the monetary success of our citizens. The United Nations often blasts America for not giving enough to other nations. That's because they do not understand (or want to admit) that we are a nation that does not believe we should give charity from the government, but rather from the compassion of the private citizen! That is exactly what we do! And indeed! Our government gives plenty, too! The truth is The United States has done more for other nations than any other nation on earth.

It is Capitalism that allows for us to be a generous society. It is really what our Founders intended. They didn't want the government to be handing out money to citizens. They had learned that that idea didn't work at Jamestown in 1610! So instead they followed the Biblical principal of 2 Thessalonians 3:10: "For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." Our Capitalistic society is based on this verse.

I have no idea what Trump has declared on his taxes in the way of charity; nor does anyone, save Trump and his accountant. But what does that matter anyway? He would simply get blasted for declaring it, with people saying he shouldn't expect to receive a tax break for his giving as rich as he is. He should just give! I absolutely believe that is what we would hear from the liberal left media. Truthfully, I really don't care what he has declared. I have seen a good number of people come forward and give testimony to how he has helped them financially with his generous contributions and support. That's what Capitalism allows!

I am afraid we have raised up a society that simply does not understand our system. We have been engrained in recent years with a socialist mindset that encourages far too many to believe the government should be taking care of us. The government should give us this, the government should take care of that. This mindset is exactly why we are 20 trillion dollars in debt. It has to end. And it has to begin with educating our citizens with the true design of our nation and how Capitalism works.

Mr. Trump needs to learn and grow. We all do. At least he knows it. And I have every confidence he will. He always has.
