Ron Paul is from all appearances "anti-Israel". He and his son Rand want to cut off all aid to Israel, believing the US has no place in supporting Israel. Rand wrote legislation in 2010 to stop financial support to Israel, but it drew such controversy that he had to withdraw his bill.
Yes, I am a Christian; and I base all my decisions on that fact. How does a Christian reconcile turning our backs on Israel when we have a Biblical mandate to “Bless” this nation? We can not be “friends” with enemies that want to see Israel blown to bits. As far as the argument of stopping aid to foreign nations: Yes! We should cut foreign aid to the enemy! But why should we stop aid to our only ally and democracy in the Middle East? We should stop foreign aid to some nations, but continue to bring support to Israel. It doesn’t have to be Paul’s way of completely cutting all. Why does he continue to call for that? I believe it is because he doesn’t see the deeper picture and the Biblical mandate. Even if not for Biblical reasons, we still do great harm to ourselves by neglecting and deserting this ally. Why do so many radicals and fringe groups support Paul? I believe it is because they see someone that would aid in their dangerous agenda, should he be elected President of the United States.
When pushed on the issue of Ron Paul's lack of support for Israel, his supporters love to point to this video. It is a video made by the Paul campaign using a clip from a speach made by Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu when he addressed the Congress in 2010. It shows PM Netanyahu stating that Israel is already a built nation and does not need America's support. This video shows the deceit that I have come to expect from the Ron Paul campaign. PM Netanyahu's statements are clearly taken out of context, and when the entire speech is viewed or read, one will see that the context is distinctly different than the Paul supporters would have us believe. Furthermore when one understands that this speech took place directly after Obama had dissed the Prime Minister in the White House, because Netanyahu would not agree to Obama's "Land for Peace" deal, it gives a much clearer understanding of what Bibi Netanyahu was trying to convey. And convey that message he did, in a very clear and diplomatic way. I have the utmost respect for PM Netanyahu; please view or read the Prime Minister's entire speech here. One will find that most Paul supporters hate this speech, because PM Netanyahu states so clearly what many are trying to deny.
I'm afraid Obama and Paul are more closely aligned on the issue of Israel and our support of her (or as in this case, lack of it) as Americans.
And then there are those pesky newsletters. You know the ones that have Paul’s name all over them, but which when surfaced this campaign, he claimed to have never written because of the racist comments that were contained throughout them. Then, of course, when pushed, and it looked like not knowing what was written in his own newsletter revealed poor management skills, he finally admitted to writing “some of them”.
