Paul’s argument of States Rights brings good points regarding leaving abortion, illegal drugs, gay marriage and other controversial subjects to the states. However, in regard to abortion, Roe V Wade changed all that! It is too far gone and too late to leave this issue simply to the states. We are in the same position regarding a Marriage Amendment and a Parental Rights Amendment. Sad to say, that the United States of America is in this position, but unfortunately, yes we are. Unfortunately, as with the abortion issue, states rights will no longer protect our children. Rick Santorum held the best argument in the first Presidential debate when he quoted Abraham Lincoln in saying the states do not have the right to legislate that which is immoral: i.e. abortion; illegal drugs; prostitution.
Paul does not support the Parental Rights Amendment, or the Marriage Amendment - hiding behind "states rights" to justify his liberal position on these stances. Pushed on the issue, you will find he is not as pro-life as he would like everyone to believe. Yes, states rights is incredibly important, but as Abraham Lincoln once said, and which Rick Santorum pointed out in one of the recent debates, the States do not have the right to legislate that which is immoral.
